The KBE Foundation :: Giving back to the communities where we work and live

Since 2009, KBE has donated more than $4 million in direct donations and pro-bono services, along with thousands of employee volunteer hours, to not-for-profits and municipalities throughout Connecticut, Maryland, Arizona, and New York, where the firm has its regional offices.

In early 2022, this long-standing philanthropic initiative took a giant leap forward with the creation of The KBE Foundation (www.kbefoundation.org), a non-profit public charity under IRC sections 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(1). The Foundation provides volunteer and financial donations to programs that support children, seniors, and military personnel and their families in our communities.

The idea for the KBE Foundation grew out of our ‘50 Ways to Make a Difference’ philanthropy program, which we launched in 2009 to celebrate our then-50 year anniversary. This award-winning program has long since become ingrained in our culture.

As KBE has expanded its geographic footprint as a national construction firm, our charitable outreach has naturally expanded as well. We believe that corporate philanthropy is our responsibility – and our employees agree. Many of our staff tell us how proud they are of our philanthropic focus and of being a part of a company that believes in giving back.

Our philanthropic outreach includes financial support, pro bono construction services, and employee volunteer hours to support a wide range of community-based charities, many of them recommended to us by our staff.

Signature Events

The KBE Foundation offers five signature philanthropic programs, which are:

Technical High School Scholarship Program:
We believe a career in construction offers a great future for our nation’s young women and men. Since 2014, our Scholarship program has provided $150,000 in scholarships to 137 graduating technical high school seniors who are pursuing careers in the building trades and construction leadership programs.

Annual KBE Golf Tournament:
First held in 2015, our annual golf event has drawn hundreds of golfers and raised thousands of dollars for our technical high school scholarship program. Helping create a well-trained workforce for the future of our industry just makes good sense!

Gift of Gobble/Thanksgiving’s On Us:
Since 2009, we have been providing full Thanksgiving meals to our neighbors in need, reaching nearly 4,500+ families through the efforts of our staff volunteers and their families.

Veterans Center/Mission BBQ Lunch:
In 2019, we started a tradition of serving lunch to visitors and patients at the state-run Veterans Center in Newington, CT. One day each August, a dozen or more KBE Building Corporation employees serve several hundred veterans and their families, with food purchased from Mission BBQ.

Special Olympics Unified Fishing Tournament:
We are the founding sponsor for this new Special Olympics event, which started in 2018. The fishing tournament draws Special Olympians from around the country. Our KBE team is on hand to work with the athletes on all aspects of fishing, from baiting hooks to shouting encouragement when someone hooks a fish.
