KBE Building Corp. and OSHA Enter Into New Partnership

KBE has legacy of jobsite safety awards, honors

BRIDGEPORT, Conn., April 30, 2014 — The U.S. Department of Labor – OSHA, Bridgeport Area Office (BptAO) and the Connecticut Department of Labor, Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ConnOSHA) have entered into a new partnership with KBE Building Corporation promoting jobsite safety and health.

Developed specifically for KBE, the partnership will help facilitate voluntary health and safety performance improvements during completion of KBE’s $72 million Jewish Senior Services Project in Bridgeport.

KBE has won Safety Training & Evaluation Process (STEP) Awards of Achievement from the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. – Connecticut Chapter (CT ABC) every year since 1995. Most recently, KBE won the “Best of the Best Safety Award” for General Contractors in Connecticut in 2012 and 2013.

KBE has also received Safety Recognition from the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). The AGC has recognized KBE with “Excellence in Construction Safety and Health” awards from 2010-2013. In 2013, the AGC also honored KBE Safety Director Adam Peters with the award for “Construction Safety Professional of the Year in Connecticut.”

“We’ve always prioritized the health and safety of our employees and sub-contractors,” said KBE President and principal owner Mike Kolakowski, “so we’re very pleased that the OSHA partnership will provide even more resources to enhance our jobsite safety efforts.”

The OHSA Training Partnership focuses on eliminating the four primary construction safety hazards on a jobsite: Falls, Struck-By, Caught-In, and Electrical. The partnership works by helping KBE reinforce its already stringent safety standards. KBE will oversee sub-contractors’ development and implementation of stringent health and safety programs. KBE will also meet weekly with sub-contractor foremen and conduct a periodic review of injury and illness statistics with OSHA.

For its part, OSHA will receive ongoing feedback on incident trends. Additionally, OSHA will provide input on compliance strategies and periodically attend site safety and health meetings.

OSHA officials and KBE Vice President of Field Operations Anthony Maselli signed the agreement on March 27. The partnership will last through completion of the Jewish Senior Services Project, scheduled for summer 2016.
