Firm honored as team leader for Conn. College Boiler Plant Replacement Project
FARMINGTON, CT, June 23, 2015 – The International Partnering Institute gave its 2015 Partnered Project of the Year Award – Vertical Building Projects, Sapphire Level – to the Connecticut College Boiler Plant Replacement Project Team.
Team leader KBE Building Corp. served as Construction Manager at Risk for the $5 million, 7-month project at the College’s New London, CT campus, which encompassed the following phases:
- asbestos abatement and demolition at the existing central heating plant
- removal and replacement of three aging boilers with four new flexible watertube ones
- addition of other supporting equipment, including de-aerators, pumps, and chemical treatment systems
- minor structural and architectural modifications made to accommodate the renovations
Award Criteria
The IPI awards are given to project teams who help support the IPI’s goal of collaboration in construction. KBE was awarded based on the following criteria related to IPI best practices:
- fostering high trust and collaborative relationships with partners
- achievement of project outcomes
- inclusion of stakeholders and project participants in the partnering process
- innovative approaches to partnering and project implementation
- demonstrated commitment to the partnering process
The award ceremony took place at the San Francisco International Airport Aviation Museum.
Continuing the Great Work at Conn. College
The boiler replacement is one of several major projects KBE has completed for the benefit of Connecticut College since 2005. KBE and the College previously won the 2013 IPI Partnered Project of the Year award for the College’s new Science Center project.
The firm has also overseen more than 300 facilities improvement, renovation, and addition projects at the College in addition to building its award-winning, LEED Gold-certified New London Hall Science Center and its LEED Silver-certified Fitness Center.
