KBE Makes a Splash on New Waterside Retail Developments in VA and MD

COLUMBIA, Md., Oct. 31, 2016 – KBE Building Corporation is taking part in the re-building on the MidAtlantic harborfront, with two major retail renovation projects underway. KBE Building Corporation (KBE), a $300 million construction firm located in Connecticut and Maryland, recently began construction on two new retail developments – Waterside District in Norfolk, Virginia and Harborplace in Baltimore, Maryland.

About Waterside District

KBE is serving as Construction Manager at Risk for the $14 million, 135,000 square foot renovation of the old 1980’s shopping center located on the Elizabeth River in Norfolk.

Waterside District will be a central place for Norfolk residents to hang out, dine and shop with the whole family. Waterside District will feature the best of national, regional and local restaurants and will offer live music, festivals and more. Located in the heart of the central business district and adjacent to the City of Norfolk’s world-class waterfront and festival site, Waterside District will become a central gathering place for local residents and visitors.

KBE and BCT Architects of Baltimore are collaborating on the city-owned, tax increment financed project scheduled for completion in April 2017.

About Harborplace

Also scheduled for completion in 2017, KBE is serving as General Contractor for the $10 million, 77,500 square foot renovation to the popular Baltimore Harborplace located on Light and Pratt Streets at the Inner Harbor. 

KBE, working alongside MG2, an architecture firm in Washington, D.C., and Seattle, will perform various tenant improvements including a new storefront and upgrades to the pavilions, heating and cooling upgrades, and common area renovations.

Baltimore’s favorite tenants including Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Hooter’s, and Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum will remain in the renovated building.
