HARTFORD, Conn., October 26, 2012 – KBE Building Corporation is working with the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network (CPBN) and Friar Associates on the design and construction of the broadcast agency’s new Learning Lab.
The Learning Lab will be located at CPBN’s Asylum Avenue Headquarters and Broadcast Studios in Hartford. The Lab will be a digital learning destination for students, teachers, veterans, and adults – using technology to inspire, produce new content, and develop workforce skills in individuals of all ages. The teaching facility’s first education partners will include the Hartford public school system, and will serve as a satellite campus for 100 high school seniors from the Journalism & Media Academy beginning in the fall of 2013.
The $1.8 million project will renovate the 4th and 5th floors of the existing CPBN corporate building to create room for the Learning Lab. The new facility will include classrooms, production studios, an auditorium, media production facilities, a viewing room, and computer workstations.
Friar Associates is currently designing the project. KBE will start construction later this fall, with project completion planned for spring 2013.
In 2004, KBE worked with CPBN to construct the award-winning renovation of the six-story office building at 1049 Asylum Avenue, which created a state-of-the-art digital broadcast and production center for the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network.
“Since our work on the original building almost ten years ago, we have maintained a strong, successful relationship with the CPBN staff,” said Mike Kolakowski, President and CEO of KBE Building Corporation. “We are looking forward to another successful collaboration.”
