BRIDGEPORT, Conn., Aug. 16, 2013 — Volunteers from KBE Building Corporation (KBE) and Fletcher Thompson donated over 300 backpacks and assorted school supplies to children in need at the Cardinal Shehan Center Summer Day Camp on August 8th, 2013.
The backpacks were filled with pens, pencils, notebooks, and other school supplies, and were distributed to the children at the end of the summer camp’s session on Friday, August 9th.
Attendants of the presentation included: Mike Kolakowski, KBE Principle and CEO; Mike Marcinek, Fletcher Thompson Managing Partner and CFO/Cardinal Sheehan board member; Michelle McNeil, People’s United Bank Senior Vice President of Human Resources; and Beth Gabriel, Service Management Group & SSC Inc. Executive Assistant.
Representatives of several other companies, including Team Epic Company, Victor Advertising, WB Mason, People’s United Bank & Service Management Group, and BIC Corporation, also contributed backpacks and boxes of supplies.
KBE’s donation was part of its charitable initiative 50 Ways to Make a Difference. Launched in 2009 to celebrate KBE’s 50th year in business, 50 Ways to Make a Difference formalizes the construction company’s 50+ year legacy of charitable giving, and focuses on providing support for children, seniors, and military personnel. The annual program is funded by significant corporate donations, personal donations from the firm’s three owners, and donations and volunteer time contributed by KBE’s 120+ employees.
“The Cardinal Shehan Center has been in existence for over 50 years. This is the first year that all the children will leave camp with a new backpack with school supplies,” said Terry O’Connor, Executive Director of the Cardinal Shehan Center. “We hope to continue this in the years to come.”
