Connecticut College, Central Steam Plant
Location: New London, CT
Client: Connecticut College
Architect: Charney Architects, LLC (New Haven, CT)
Description: Demolition and removal of three aging boilers, including asbestos abatement and minor architectural and structural modifications, followed by installation of a high-performing, energy-efficient steam plant system with centralized controls. The project encompasses four new flexible watertube boilers, de-aerators, pumps, and chemical treatment systems, supported by a new electrical infrastructure. The new plant was able to start delivering steam just five months after the last boiler was shut down, preventing substantial additional costs for the College, particularly in having to provide temporary boilers to facilitate campus heating.
