Eastern Connecticut State University, Child & Family Development Center

Location: Willimantic, CT
Client: State of Connecticut, Department of Construction Services (Hartford, CT)
Architect: New England Design, Inc. (Mansfield, CT)
Description: General Contractor for structural steel and brick, 40,276 sf dual-purpose academic facility providing both a fully operational “teaching” day care center and academic classroom space for the University’s Early Childhood Development Program. The two-story portion of the building provides classroom space. The one-story portion is a fun, dynamic setting for the teaching day care center, where students work with university faculty to provide day care for area children. One feature of the day care is the “Town Square”, with its child-size false storefronts and huge artificial tree that provide interactive learning for the children.

"Everything about the new space – from innovative design, the creative furnishings, and the exceptional craftsmanship – makes this truly a noteworthy project. The level of detail and coordination that went into this project from the very start was incredible. Your project team has provided an extraordinary level of support, commitment and team work….The entire process has been characterized by a true spirit of cooperation…” - Nancy Tinker, ECSU Director of Facilities Management & Planning
