Description: General Contractor for the construction and interior fit-out of the 20,000 sf steel-framed library set above a 36,000 sf cast-in-place concrete parking garage. The library’s perimeter provides an elevated terrace with a combination of brick pavers and pea gravel protected by a stainless steel cable rail system. Inside, 2′ x 6′ timber ceilings feature exposed ductwork, sprinkler system, and lighting, along with carefully placed clerestory glass that allows for maximum daylight. As part of the project, KBE also created a foundation and underslab plumbing for a historic African-American farmer’s home that was relocated to the site and completely restored by a contractor specializing in historic restorations. The restored homestead will be used as a living history exhibit with working gardens.
